AZ VOSH will be holding an eye clinic for the underserved people of Navajoa, Mexico from March 1 through the 7th. Free eye examinations and glasses will be provided for people of all ages from children to the elderly.
Carpools to Hermosillo will be available from the Tucson and Phoenix areas, or you may drive yourself on Sunday, March 1st and returning on Saturday, March 7th. We will travel to Hermosillo on Sunday and then take a private bus to Navojoa. Clinic will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and we will return on Saturday. We will have Wednesday off for resting, socializing, and taking tours of the area. We will stay in a hotel in Navajoa.
As Hermosillo is a free trade zone, there is no need to register your vehicle, and the highway is very good. Food and lodging for the mission are covered by the Navojoa government and the PITIC Hermosillo Rotary Club. Our volunteers will only be responsible for the costs of transportation to Hermosillo and personal items (e.g., snacks, souvenirs).
We welcome optometrists, opticians, ophthalmologists, and even those without any special training, but with the heart to serve, to join us.
Optometrists, ophthalmologists, opticians, and non-optometric volunteers will be joined by students and faculty from three Mexican optometry universities. Non-optometric volunteers will help with patient education, frame selection, directing traffic, etc. There will also be Mexican high schoolers and/or college-aged Rotary Club members who will serve as interpreters as needed. The goal is to see around 2000 patients during the mission.
